The history of Pongal festival is estimated to be around 2000 years old. It played an important role in the agricultural society of the ancient Tamils. Pongal festival is considered as a socio-cultural symbol of Tamil people as it is based on the development of agriculture and worship of the sun (Pongal Festival 2025). Pongal festival is celebrated as a festival to realize the importance of agriculture and nature in the life of Tamil people. Bogi Pongal, Thai Pongal, Matu Pongal and Kanum Pongal are celebrated by Tamils all over the world for four days, especially the importance of farmers’ labor and thanksgiving for nature’s contribution in food production.
