Vineeta Singh is the co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, one of India’s most prominent omnichannel beauty brands. An alumnus of IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad, she first made headlines at age 23 by rejecting a lucrative ₹1 crore annual salary offer from Deutsche Bank. Choosing the unpredictable path of entrepreneurship over corporate security, she began her journey surviving on a modest monthly stipend while building her initial ventures.

Her rise to success was marked by multiple failures and crucial pivots. Her first startup, an HR outsourcing firm named Quetzal, struggled to scale. Undeterred, she launched a beauty subscription service called Fab Bag in 2012. While Fab Bag faced growth limitations, it served as a vital data collection engine. Singh discovered a massive gap in the beauty market: major global cosmetics brands were failing to create shades that complemented diverse Indian skin tones or formulas that could withstand the country’s hot, humid climate.

Driven by this insight, she co-founded SUGAR Cosmetics in 2015 alongside her husband, Kaushik Mukherjee. The early days were incredibly challenging; she faced over 100 investor rejections and systemic gender bias from venture capitalists who doubted a woman could build a scalable retail business. Defying the odds, Singh leveraged a digital-first, content-driven marketing strategy that resonated deeply with millennial and Gen Z consumers. Today, SUGAR is a massive retail powerhouse valued at over ₹4,000 crore, boasting a retail footprint of more than 45,000 touchpoints across 550 cities.

Singh has since expanded her business footprint. In 2023, she partnered with Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan to co-own Quench Botanics, a premium Korean skincare brand tailored for Indian skin. As a prominent “Shark” on Shark Tank India since its inception in 2021, she has invested crores across dozens of budding startups, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and funding women-led enterprises. Her leadership and economic impact have earned her spots on the Forbes India W-Power list and the Fortune India 40 Under 40 list, cementing her legacy as a foundational figure in India’s modern startup ecosystem.
